During the month of May, NZ is celebrating local music. There’ll be plenty of performances at our libraries for kids to enjoy. There’s even special ukulele lessons just for younger players, which are taking place at libraries across the city. Check out what’s on at a library near to you.

Babies and Toddlers

Auckland Libraries provide free weekly sessions so that parents and caregivers can help their young children learn and practise movement in a fun environment. I have taken B to both these activities listed below and they are a good 30 mins of fun! Do check them out.

Wriggle & Rhyme

A fun, free programme that provides positive movement experiences to stimulate development of both the brain and the body for babies 0 – 2 years. You can read more about this here.

Aimed at ages 18 months to 3 years, Rhymetime provides music, songs, movement and finger rhymes to pre-schoolers and their caregivers. Read more here.

The highly popular storytimes are sessions of stories read by librarians and sometimes, by authors or other guests. These are ideal for kids 3-5 years of age. Read more about this here.

Toddlers and Kids

Auckland Churches also provide free weekly children’s music sessions. I have started taking B here since 3 weeks now and its amazing to see how he runs inside the sec i open the door!

Mainly Music

Here children develop gross and fine motor skills, language, imagination, mathematical and pre-reading skills as well as socialize with others. Each mainly music is associated with and is run by volunteers from a local church. Children are introduced to music, creativity and more. So its 30 mins of music and dance followed by tea time for kids (provided by the church) and free play time. Once a month a guest speaker interacts with the toddlers, doing various fun activities.
